3 Wheeler Buggies
A three-wheeled buggy is ideal for off-roading and provides the most comfortable ride for infants. They are also easier to push and maneuver than a four-wheel buggy, especially if they have fabric sling seats or modular seat units that are placed snugly within the frame, providing the most efficient geometry and weight distribution.
Stability
A three-wheel buggy has excellent stability, which is why it's an ideal option for off-road walks (especially with an all terrain or off-road style seat unit). They typically have larger front wheels that can deal well with bumps and kerbs and rough ground. Some even feature a lockable front tire for extra stability on uneven terrain.
It's worth bearing in mind that 3-wheel buggies have a lower center of gravity than models with four wheels, which can mean that they fall over more easily. However, the most reliable 3-wheel buggies have the an ideal geometry and design to ensure that they remain stable in all conditions. They should be able of turning at a single click, be easy to steer with just one hand, and have a 360o swivelling front wheel that makes them great for maneuvering and navigating challenging terrain.
Look for models that have pneumatic tyres. These are made to be able to navigate tracks that aren't paved and should be able to take on mud, gravel, rocks and more. A majority of all-terrain buggies come with an swivelling front wheel that can be locked to provide stability when tackling extremely rough ground too.
A 3-wheeler is a good option for runners or those who like to walk fast and uphill, especially when you plan to attach a carrycot or car seat. The Roma Atlas is an excellent model. It features the flat-reclining seat, a 5-point harness, and plenty of storage space to keep all your equipment (plus an extendable 50+ sun hood). It's lightweight, compact and suitable for babies and can be used with a carrycot or car seat. It can also be used for light jogging but is not intended for serious runners.
Weight
If you're looking for a buggy that can handle difficult terrain then you want one with big wheels. These will cope well over cobbles, grass and dirt tracks, while providing an enjoyable ride for any passenger. 3 wheeler pushchair for jogging since they have built in suspension and are simple to move up and down kerbs. However, they're quite heavy to push.
The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the best 3 wheel buggy you can use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3-wheel buggy is very mobile due to its 16 rear wheels and the front wheel can be locked. It has air-filled tyres that need to be pumped up from time to time. It can carry children as young as the age of three. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler loved the design of the seat and she found it easy to steer with her three-year-old child on board.

The Baby Jogger Versa GT is an alternative that is also a great choice. It comes with an adjustable handlebar, a high-quality hood that offers 50+ UV protection and a high quality hood. It is also easy to move kerbs up and down and fits into a the car's boot space in a small size. It can also be used as a pram, with baby car seat for infants and toddlers.
Fabric sling seats sit snugly within the buggie's frame instead of sitting on top of it as modular seats. This design provides a lower center of gravity that is at the ideal height, instantly making it easier to push and lighter to pop the kerb (you cannot underestimate how often you'll do that as new parents!)
Seating
There are a myriad of options for seating in 3 wheelers. For a newborn it is possible to use the carrycot (which MFM reviewer Alice says is a cozy and comfortable lie flat bed that can be used both on and off the buggy) In addition, older babies and toddlers can sit in the parent or world-facing seat unit that is roomy and cushioned and has adjustable ventilation. It is important to note that the seats aren't fully reclined however, they can be lowered to the lowest position which will give your child plenty of headroom and space to move around.
A sling seat made of fabric is also available, which has the advantage of being placed snugly within the frame, rather than on top like the modular seat. This delivers a much lower centre of gravity and a perfect weight distribution. This makes it much easier and lighter to push, particularly over bumpy terrains or curbs and MFM reviewer Kath loved the way this type of seat handled these obstacles.
Alongside a huge shopping basket, this kind of buggy usually has pretty useful features such as an extended 50+ UV hood, a simple brake pedal, and a few game-changing visibility lights that pop up from the handlebar and can be positioned in front of the passengers to increase their safety when tackling tricky terrain.
If you're searching for a stroller that can grow with your family The sport(tm) is a first in the world designed to accommodate infants and be modified to fit three or more children as they grow. All within one footprint.
Storage
The 3-wheeled frame is more stable and can be pushed with one hand. It's also ideal for difficult terrain. The shopping basket is smaller than a 4-wheeler.
A high-quality ATP will come with a great suspension, pneumatic tyres and padding for the handle to ensure your comfort. It will also be equipped to carry the form of a car seat and carrycot which means you can use it from the time you are born.
MFM's reviewers have found that the 3-wheeler frame won't pass through all doors in their homes or small car boot - be sure you know the dimensions of the buggy once it's folded prior to purchasing in case you're concerned about space.
Find a 3-wheeler that has 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the best option for your child's future and will help you save money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most well-known. It can be used from the day of birth as a single buggy and then converted into twin buggies when your baby is walking.
Tyres
These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more enjoyable. They are typically used on pushchairs such as the Phil and Ted's Sport which MFM reviewer Kath said offered "an outstanding ride for her toddler". She also noted that its grippy tyres made it easier to handle kerbs and cobbles.
They can be difficult to maintain and will require having their air pressure regularly topped up. These tyres are prone to punctures, which is why you should always have a repair kit as well as an spare inner tube with you when you're out and out and about.
PU tyres are more commonly used on pushchairs because they are less expensive than tyres filled with air, but they are just as durable. You can tell PU tire treads by their matte appearance and soft feel. They also slide easily on even and tied surfaces.
If you run your hand over the tyres, then you can determine if they're PU or rubber. If it feels as if it's moving, then it is a PU. You can also confirm whether your buggy has PU tyres simply by sliding the tyres on a clean, flat surface - they'll be able to roll easily and should fit comfortably in their wheel hubs.
Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain that comes with high-performance buggies. The downside of this is that the foam could shrink and make your buggy feel less stable as it loses its springy feel. Also, these tyres may typically be noisy because they make a lot of noise when you turn and make your way around town.
